Primo Viaggio - ISOFIX Base

ISOFIX – Primo Viaggio Questions & Answers

Can I use the Primo Viaggio SIP with the new ISOFIX base?

No! The Primo Viaggio SIP is only compatible with the Surefix base or no base – not the ISOFIX base. Only the Primo Viaggio I.P. model (5 point harness) can be used on an ISOFIX base.

Can I use the new Primo Viaggio I.P with my current Surefix base?

Yes. The Primo Viaggio I.P is compatible with both the ISOFIX and Surefix base.

Can I use the ISOFIX base in a non ISOFIX car?

No, the ISOFIX base can not be used in a non ISOFIX car. You can either use the Primo Viaggio I.P. on it’s own with the seat belt, or the Primo Viaggio I.P. on the Surefix base.

Can I use the new Primo Viaggio I.P without a base?

Yes, it can be used without a base using the cars adult seat belt. This will be without use of the ISOFIX fitting.

How can I check my Primo Viaggio SIP or Primo Viaggio I.P. is fitted into the correct base?

For a final check that your car seat is correctly fitted, pull firmly upwards on the handle. If it is fitted correctly this will not move. If you have tried to fit the Primo Viaggio SIP into the ISOFIX base, it will come loose when pulled upwards.

NB: If you put the Primo Viaggio SIP onto the ISOFIX base (this is incorrect) and tilt it forwards, the indicators may turn green if the seat is tilted forwards. This is not correct, it is only because it is being tilted forwards by hand the indicators have turned green. By pulling on the carry handle you will clearly see the seat has not been locked into position.

Will the Primo Viaggio SIP fit in an ISOFIX car?

You can fit the Primo Viaggio SIP into an ISOFIX car on its own or with the Surefix base, however this will not be using the ISOFIX fitting.

My ISOFIX base isn’t touching the car seat i.e there is a gap underneath the base. Is this ok?

Yes this is normal. With the ISOFIX fitting the base is likely to be risen slightly off the seat due to the position of the fitting. Provided the ISOFIX base has clipped into the fittings, the leg position is correct and all indicators have turned green, the seat will be in place.

My car seat looks like its tilted at the wrong angle, but the bubble is in the middle. What’s wrong?

Always check that your car is on a flat surface when fitting the base. If you are on a hill this will affect the position of the bubble.

Should the ISOFIX base leg be fully extended?

The leg should only support the base. Let the base rest on the car seat, and adjust the leg down into the foot well in order to support the base only. (see picture)

Correct positioning

I have just bought a Primo Viaggio seat that does not have a bubble indicator on the base and is not called a Primo Viaggio SIP and is not called a Primo Viaggio I.P. - Can I use this with the ISOFIX base?

No. The car seats are compatible with the base they are sold with only, and not the ISOFIX base. My car has a split floor pan and the base only half touches the floor. Can I still use the ISOFIX base in my car? No. You must always ensure the adjustable leg is on a flat level floor in the car. Please refer to the car fit guide on the web site.
